Routt County is one of the 64 counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 23,509. The county seat is Steamboat Springs. Routt County comprises the Steamboat Springs, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,368 square miles (6,130 km²), of which 2,362 square miles (6,120 km²) is land and 6.1 square miles (16 km²) (0.3%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 19,690 people, 7,953 households, and 4,779 families residing in the county. The population density was 8 people per square mile (3/km²). There were 11,217 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile (2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.90% White, 0.13% Black or African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 3.22% of the population were Hispanic Latino of any race.
There were 7,953 households out of which 31.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.60% were married couples living together, 5.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.90% were non-families. 24.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.92.
